The Andy Wallen Peace Association was established in 1996 to satisfy the need we felt to do something, however small, to maintain Andy's memory, and to provide help to students facing significant challenges.
We sponsor an annual tae kwon do tournament as a memorial to our son, to raise money for scholarships and to remind us of what a special and unique person he was. Andy loved tae kwon do, Native American studies, writing and, most especially, his friends and family. Many things influenced the person he became as he grew up and a very important one was tae kwon do. He not only loved sparring he lived his life by the tenets of tae kwon do. He didn’t just memorize them - courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control, indomitable spirit - they were part of who he was. We hope to use this tournament to perpetuate these ideals and to use the money we raise to help others in need. Andy would have liked that.
